Go to the Downloads page and download the file pd Remote Raspberry Firmware file.
Next you will need to write the image file downloaded above to an SD Card. (We recommend a SD card of at least 32GB)
We recommend Etcher as the easiest way. Click here to visit their download page and download the appropriate version for your system.
Write the pd Remote OS to the SD card.
Open Etcher.
Select "Flash from file".
Browse to and select the file you Downloaded above.
("pd-RaspberryPi5-****.*.**.img.zip")
Next click "Select Target" and select the SD Card that you have plugged into your machine.
Then Click Flash! to begin writing the image file to the SD Card.
Once complete you can remove the SD Card from your machine.
You will now see the progress bar start to fill as the file is written to the SD Card.
Lastly you will see the confirmation once this has completed.
After unboxing your Raspberry Pi 5
Plug in SD Card
Plug in HDMI cable
Plug in Keyboard and Mouse
Plug in power (Ensure this is 5V/3A)
For more specific instruction on the physical setup, you can view the documentation on the Raspberry Pi Website here.
You should now see on the monitor the device starting up and loading to a desktop with the Playback logo, an activation window will appear for you to license the device.
There will be 2 windows on the screen
QR code - this can be scanned to take you to the (pd Remote Page - Hyperlinked) on a mobile device where you can input the Install Code.
Activation Box - Here you will see the Install Code and a URL (pbRemote Page - Hyperlinked) you can manually type into a browser, or click here to go to the Activation webpage.
Note: You do not need to visit the website on the device you are trying to license, you can do this step from any device.
On the website (URL to page), enter the Install code then click "Submit". (After payment is confirmed an Activation Code File will be emailed.)
Plug a USB memory stick into the computer you downloaded the attached Activation Code File from the email on.
Copy the Activation Code File to the USB memory stick.
Next plug the USB memory stick into the Raspberry Pi, then click "OK" on the Activation window.
A confirmation of the License being activated will appear.
The Activation Code can also be input manually in the text box provided on the device, then also click "OK".
Once the device has been activated a new box will appear, enter a name for the device to identify it on the network.
Note: Do not use special characters or spaces, only numbers and letters. This will be referred to as the "hostname" going forward.
Next go to the top right and click the network button with red symbols to connect the machine to a network, select the name of the wireless network to connect to.
Enter the password and click connect.
Optionally you can connect the device via a LAN cable directly to your wireless router.
Note: The pd Remote and all devices need to be on the same network.
Additional Networks can be added from the remote later.
This solution is designed for on-set offline use and does not need an internet connection, only a common network to connect to.
Now that you have the first device setup and on the network, we need to connect the remote to it.
Download and install the pb Remote Android app.
Ensure the device you installed the remote on is connected to the same network as the device you have setup.
Open the app and tap the Connections Panel
Under Host, enter the hostname of the device you have just setup, include ".local" at the end of the hostname. Example: "pbp-00.local"
Tap Connect, you will now be taken to the Main Panel where you can see device information on the top of the screen.
Next go to the Media Panel page to play your first content.
